Crime Stoppers is a community service awards program that combines the police, media and the public in a crime solving effort for Regina. The program strives to eliminate two major problems in the community with regard to fighting crime, apathy and fear. Fear is eliminated by the guarantee of anonymity and apathy by offering cash awards.
A Board of directors composed of community minded private citizens establishes policy, raises funds and oversees award payments. This non-profit organization is privately funded by tax deductible contributions from citizens, businesses and service groups.
Crime Stoppers began in the 1970's in New Mexico in response to a senseless murder at a gas station. An appeal was made to the community through the media for any information on the crime. The response was overwhelming and the program began. Crime Stoppers is now international in scope.
The Regina Crime Stoppers Program, which began in 1984, continues as an effective method for the citizens of Regina to assist their police service in reducing crime and maintaining a safe place for all families to live and grow.
The Crime Stoppers Program is not only a mechanism to assist the Regina Police Service in solving crimes, it also serves as a significant deterrent to crime.
Regina Crime Stoppers and its' Board, is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the Program, both as a means of improving the arrest/conviction rate on crimes committed and to discourage criminal activity.
Your support and awareness contributes to a community-based program that benefits all residents of Regina regardless of colour, race, creed or economic circumstances.
The Board of Directors thanks you for your attendance and support.
